COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCES IS CONVENOR INSTITUTION IN THE 1ST MEETING OF SCHOLARS FOR HUMANITY INTERNATIONAL NETWORK (SHIN)
Scholars from various international universities and institutions including Germany, United States, Australia, South Africa, as well as local universities (University of the Philippines, De La Salle University and Ateneo de Manila University) participated in the 1st Meeting of Scholars for Humanity International Network held in Iloilo City on March 23-29 2017. The event was hosted by the Gender and Development Program of UP Visayas (UPV). The College of Arts and Sciences, UP Manila and the Gender and Development Program Office, UP Visayas were convenor institutions for the meeting.
The 1st Meeting of Scholars for Humanity International Network aim is to spur scholars from around the world to put together their intellect, knowledge and skills in building a more just, peaceful and kind world. The meeting tackled dominant social justice concerns in the world today and allowed participants to commit to doing their fair share in solving issues, according to UP Visayas.
Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Emilia S. Yap of UPV and Chancellor Carmencita Padilla of UP Manila welcomed the participants. Accordingly, the event which was comprised of meetings, symposiums and community immersion was geared towards developing articles for scholarly publication and plans for public engagement. During the said meeting Dean Leonardo Estacio, Jr discussed the topic “Definitions, Representations for Domination: The Scholars' Role."
