UP Manila Joins ACLU Games 2018

The University of the Philippines Manila through the College of Arts and Sciences embarked on a milestone in sports. The student athletes trained by the faculty members of the Department of Physical Education, College of Arts and Sciences, including the CAS Dean who is the Head Coach of the UP Chess Team, participated in the Association of Local Colleges and Universities (ALCU) National Games held in Mabalacat, Pampanga from April 15 – 19, 2018 as a Guest School.  The UP Manila Team engaged in three sports event : Basketball, Table Tennis, and Chess. The student athletes committed to bring honor to the university by doing their best and winning in their respective events.

The Chess Team Captain, Janine Andrea Vizmanos won as third place in her Boards number category. On the other hand, the Table Tennis Team ended the season with a spot in the playoffs: (1) Voltz Moya, Team Captain; Rank no. 5 in Men’s Singles (2) Rya Samson, Rank no. 7 in Women’s Singles (3) JM Cruel and Jaros Roxas, Rank no. 8 in Men’s Doubles, and (4) Martin Ranises and Apple Alibin, Rank no. 8 in Mixed Doubles. Through the efforts and dedication of the coaches, assistant coaches and the student athletes, UP Manila proved that the university is ready to compete against other colleges and universities in the country.
