Three CAS Faculty Members Named UP Scientists for 2017-2019

Professors Rosario Rubite and Arnold Hallare of the Department of Biology renewed their UP Scientist I and II titles, respectively, while Professor Junie Billones of the Department of Physical Sciences and Mathematics was promoted to UP Scientist III. They were officially recognized as UP Scientists for 2017-2019 in a ceremony held on March 21, 2018 at the Bahay ng Alumni, UP Diliman.

According to UP Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs (OVPAA), the UP Scientists were chosen through the rigid selection process of the UP Scientific Productivity System (SPS). Approved by the Board of Regents in 2005, the UP SPS aims to support the development of science and technology and encourage UP constituents to increase their scientific productivity. The title comes with a monetary award.

A total of 71 UP Scientists were awarded this year, the highest in its 12-year history.
