<title>The Antimicrobial Property of Psidium guajava Linn. (Guava) Leaf and Fruit on the Periodontopathogen Porphyromonas gingivalis and the Partial Characterization of its Active Component</title>

<description>The Antimicrobial Property of Psidium guajava Linn. (Guava) Leaf and Fruit on the Periodontopathogen Porphyromonas gingivalis and the Partial Characterization of its Active Component
Henson, Karl Evans R.
The various components of Psidium guajava Linn. (Guava) leaves and fruit were&#13;
extracted using a Soxhlet extractor (organic) and by boiling (aqueous). The crude extracts&#13;
were subjected to further fractionation using organic solvents. The fractions obtained&#13;
were tested on Porphyromonas gingivalis, one of the major pathogens causing&#13;
periodontitis. The bioactive fraction, the aqueous water layer of the leaf, was&#13;
characterized by phytochemical screening. Results showed that guava leaves exhibit&#13;
antimicrobial effect on P. gingivalis, as shown by the 14-mm zone of inhibition of the&#13;
crude aqueous extract of the leaf and the 12.33-mm zone of inhibition of the aqueous&#13;
water layer of the leaf. All other fractions, including all fruit fractions, did not exhibit&#13;
microbicidal properties. Phytochemical screening revealed that the bioactive fraction&#13;
contains tannins, plant acids, reducing substances, and flavonoids.

<title>Simulation of Deterministic Turing Machine With and Without Storage</title>
<link>http://dspace.cas.upm.edu.ph:8080/xmlui/handle/123456789/3563</link>
<description>Simulation of Deterministic Turing Machine With and Without Storage
Young, Genevieve D.
Automata and Language Theory is a core course in Computer Science. The course&#13;
presents theoretical models of computations, and one of them is the Turing machine.&#13;
Construction of Turing machines is often tedious, and conceptualization of their behavior is&#13;
difficult. A web-accessible simulator software is developed to provide a means of&#13;
analyzing the behavior of a machine graphically. This simulator provides graphical&#13;
simulations of the tape and the transition diagram. The software can simulate&#13;
deterministic Turing machines (without storage) and a special type of Turing machine that&#13;
has storage in the finite control.

<title>Wireless Peer-to-Peer File Sharing</title>
<link>http://dspace.cas.upm.edu.ph:8080/xmlui/handle/123456789/3531</link>
<description>Wireless Peer-to-Peer File Sharing
Vega, Miguel Agustin C.
Modem wireless communications began with the advent of the radio. This&#13;
technology allowed communications and the exchange of information without the&#13;
logistics of having to lay out cables, as had been the standard at the time. Over the years,&#13;
wireless communications technology has advanced and has been applied to many aspects&#13;
of everyday life.&#13;
The study focused on the use of wireless communications technology as the&#13;
means to implement a file-sharing network. The study aimed at achieving this by using a&#13;
peer-to-peer architecture of devices. Each computer was given the ability to directly&#13;
share files with other nodes without the need for a central server. This model maximizes&#13;
the benefits of wireless communications by allowing for greater mobility of the nodes in&#13;
the network.&#13;
Each node in the network acted as both a client and a server. Servers waited for&#13;
connections from clients and then processed them. In the case of the study, servers acted&#13;
as file-servers, handling client request for files. Clients connected to servers in order to&#13;
request information. The main task of clients in the study was to request files from other&#13;
nodes in the network.&#13;
The program created by the study allowed users to discover nodes in the area&#13;
running the software and connect to them. The shared directory of each node could then&#13;
be read in order to see the files a node was willing to share. Finally, a selected file could&#13;
then be downloaded.

<title>Asthmatic Children Home Monitoring System (ASCHOMS)</title>
<link>http://dspace.cas.upm.edu.ph:8080/xmlui/handle/123456789/3527</link>
<description>Asthmatic Children Home Monitoring System (ASCHOMS)
Vianzon, Cheza Marie R.
The Asthmatic Children Home Monitoring System (ASCHOMS) is a web-based&#13;
application that allows parent or guardian to manage his or her child’s asthma in the premises of&#13;
their home. The pulmonary doctors maintain the medical records of the asthma patients and&#13;
create an action or treatment plan for the asthma self-management of every patient. The patients&#13;
need to monitor their symptoms and vital measurements to be aware of their current health status&#13;
and to inform their respective doctors about their condition. In return, the doctor can assess the&#13;
condition of the patient and create an appropriate self-treatment for the patient. If the pulmonary&#13;
doctor is unavailable, a reliever doctor will temporarily handle the patients. Interaction among&#13;
active valid users of the system can be done through online messaging and/or short messaging&#13;
service (SMS). Different asthma related information, activities, services, and organizations are&#13;
also maintained in the system to disseminate knowledge about asthma. There is also report&#13;
generation on asthma prevalence according to asthma type, age group, gender, and location&#13;
within Metro Manila.
