Every now and then, it is necessary to evaluate and observe human endeavors, to see if what has been done and is being done still in the heading towards the right path. It is the same with conservation and preservation of cultural heritage. This thesis is a written assessment of the conservation program of Vigan city, a UNESCO inscribed World Heritage site. The study will focus on the old houses found in Calle Crisologo, one of the main draws of Vigan City in terms of tourism and the focus of their conservation efforts. Photo documentation and site visits will be the main tools for data gathering, highlighting offenses against conservation, deviations from the guidelines, and other observations that are detrimental to conservation. The National Historical Commission’s guide to conservation will be the framework for data analysis. Additionally, a SWOT analysis will be utilized for better insight into the program along with comparative analyses of selected buildings. This study will aim to assess if the conservation program of Calle Crisologo sufficient for a World Heritage Site. |
