Advent of Globalization: Situation of Women’s Workers in the Electronic Sector

Abstract

Philippine history mirrors the transition of women’s role in our society, from precolonial period “babaylan” to “Maria Clara” rooted from the Spanish era. This colonial influence introduced the notion of women as the weaker sex, submissive and vulnerable. As implication of our colonial past, there exist implicit and explicit acts of exploitation among women most specially in the nature of capitalist system. This undergraduate thesis aims to reveal the real situation of women workers in the manufacturing sector (electronic industry). The goal of the researcher is to concretize the oppressive conditions of women in the factory of electronics that are written and reviewed in different articles and books. The researcher also wants to materialize the truth behind stereotyping female laborers for repetitive, low -skilled jobs etc. The study also wants to know the significance of globalization in the worsening scenario of gender stratification in workplace. The researcher aims to show how this propaganda being use by the neo-colonizers to serve the interest of the industrialized north in expense of the global south human resource. In this light, the researcher recommend women empowerment through formulation and proper implementation of laws and programs that promote protection and wellness of every woman.
