dc.description.abstract This study sought to determine the willingness of people in intimate relationships to sacrifice for their partners. It also analyzed the relationships among the variables of willingness to sacrifice, relationship satisfaction, and personality types between intimate couples. Two survey - questionnaires and one personality test were administered to 52 Filipino males and females, aged 17-25, who are currently involved in intimate relationships and who are studying in different universities around Metro Manila. In-depth interviews were also conducted with purposively chosen respondents. Data analysis was performed using frequencies, chi-square test, t-test and Pearson r for the quantitative part, and descriptive statistics and theme analysis for the qualitative portion of the study. The results revealed that all the respondents are willing to sacrifice. Moreover, males were found to be more willing to sacrifice as compared to females. Additionally, there is a great variation in the aspects that male and female respondents are willing to sacrifice for. The results also reveal a salient association of people who are more willing to sacrifice with their tendency to have higher relationship satisfactions. Conversely, people less willing to sacrifice tend to have lower relationship satisfaction. On the other hand, the five personality traits were not found to be significantly correlated with willingness to sacrifice. en_US
