Abstract:
The present political status of the NGOs in the society is an indication that they already grown out the traditional role of mass movements as mandated by historical changes. In a wider basis, the emergence of these powerful NGOs implies new approaches to governance and politics. The developing NGOs can now play strategic roles in the context of strengthening the people’s base through their programs of activities. They can address the issue of recovering the material base of the society through greater access and control over resources by the local community and people’s organizations. The role of NGOs, therefore, entails bigger atmosphere building a structure which is “pro-masses and peoples’ choice”.
