Abstract:
In 1992, the government re-established the youth councils in the country through the
Sangguniang Kabataan (SK). It posed as a venue for the youth to have a representation to
their barangay and to the municipality or city government. The main vision of the restoration
of these youth councils is to be able to mobilize the youth in ways that will contribute to
their growth and development as well as their barangays.
The Makati SK, with the support of its city government, is consistent in actively
pursuing the visions and goals of the SK. In this regard, the study aims to determine the role
of the youth councils in Makati, not only in mobilizing the youth but more, in training their
SK officers to be the future leaders of the nation. The SK is a great venue to develop the
youth to be better citizens, to contribute to the progress of the nation, and to groom future
heads of the country.
At a young age, the youth, through the SK are exposed to big responsibilities and
obligations that will prepare them if ever they would want to pursue higher political posts.
Also, being an SK officer provides them insights of the processes that make up our
government and makes them realize whether or not they would want to lead and take part
in re-building and shaping a better future for our nation.
