dc.description.abstract The effect of Catharanthus roseus G. Don leaf extracts on Hydrochlorothiazide-induced hyperglycemic Swiss Webster Mice was studied. Thirty mice were divided into five groups corresponding to the following treatments: the positive control group which was administered with 52 mg/kg Glipizide, the negative control group given 1.0 ml of distilled water, and the three remaining groups given 10ml/kg, 20 ml.kg, and 30 ml/kg 30% decoction, respectively. The mass and initial blood glucose concentrations were first taken. The hyperglycemia-inducing drug Hydrochlorothiazide was then administered at dose 36 mg/kg by oral gavage. This was followed by the administration of the different treatments after ten minutes. Blood glucose determinations were conducted at 30 minute intervals after the administration of treatments. Results revealed that a 30% C. roseus decoction given at 10 ml/kg, 20 ml/kg, and 30 ml/kg has no effect in the lowering of the blood sugar of hydrochlorothiazide-induced hyperglycemic Swiss Webster mice. en_US
