Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in the Philippines remain to be a sector that suffers from the existing oppressive structure of society. Training and employment opportunities are very limited especially for them because of discrimination from employers and because of the inaccessibility of training and work places. Because of the shift to a knowledge-intensive information society, skills in Information and Communications Technology (ICT) have become a very important requirement in order to secure proper training and gainful employment. Access to ICTs and Assistive Technologies can serve as an equalizer of abilities and will enable persons with disabilities to gain access to the same opportunities as those who are normally-abled. This study focuses on the role of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) accessibility in the training and employment of Persons with Disabilities in Quezon City, Philippines. |
