UP Artist and Scientists from CAS Recognized
Two of UP’s most accomplished researchers from CAS earned the title of UP Scientist 1, while another, the title of UP Artist 1, for 2018-2020.
Associate Professors Marilen P. Balolong and Voltaire G. Organo of the Department of Biology and the Department of Physical Sciences and Mathematics, respectively, were officially recognized, together with 69 other UP Scientists for 2018-2020 in a ceremony held on May 28, 2019 at the School of Statistics Auditorium, UP Diliman.
The UP Scientists were chosen through the rigid selection process of the UP Scientific Productivity System. The applicants were assessed for scientific productivity and international scientific recognition. It is implemented by the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs since 2005 to support the development of science and technology and encourage and reward scientific productivity.
Named UP Artist 1 (Fine Arts) under the UP Arts Productivity System was Associate Professor Honey Libertine Achazar- Labor of the Department of Arts and Communication. She is the Program Coordinator/Chair of the BA Philippine Arts – Cultural Heritage and Arts Management Program. Dr. Labor has spearheaded cultural projects in UP Manila such as the Calle Faura Project and Flores de Mayo festival.
The UP Arts Productivity System, implemented by the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs since 2008, is the counterpart for the arts of the UP Scientific Productivity System. It aims to encourage outstanding productivity in the creative arts or in arts scholarship for national development.
