CAS Invited Talk: “Defending the West Philippine Sea: Challenges and Opportunities”

The University of the Philippines Manila (UPM) College of Arts and Sciences’ (CAS) Office of the Associate Dean for Research and Public Service (OADREPS) in collaboration with the UPM Political Science Society (UP Polis) held, as part of its CAS Invited Talk, a forum for students and faculties alike to talk and discuss about matters in the West Philippines Sea.

The talk was held last November 16, 2023 at the UPM CAS Theater led by CAS Dean Ma. Constancia Carillo and Associate Dean for  Research and Public Service Christopher Jay Robidillo. The event was attended by a total of 234 guests both of which are from UP and non-UP.

 

Simultaneously, the event was also broadcasted via Facebook Live through the UPM CAS and UPM CAS OADREPS Facebook pages.

The special guest of  the event was Atty. Jay Batongbacal, the current Director of the Institute for Maritime Affairs and Law of the Sea at the University of the Philippines Diliman (UPD).

 

Atty. Batongbacal discussed about the current opportunities and challenges that Philippines is facing in dealing with the West Philippine Sea dispute. After the presentation, an open forum was held, giving opportunity to students and faculties attending the event to raise their concerns and ask their questions.

 

The event was concluded with a closing remark by Jose Mikhail Perez, the current Program Head for the Political Science Program under the UPM CAS Department of Social Sciences.
