CAS holds 2024 Faculty Conference on Curriculum Review

The University of the Philippines Manila (UPM) College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) held its faculty conference for the second semester of 2023-2024 with the theme, “Curriculum Review: The First Step,” on April 12, 2024, at the Bayleaf Hotel Intramuros.

 

The event started with the opening remarks of Dr. Julius Andrew P. Nuñez, the CAS Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and the main coordinator of the conference. Dr. Nuñez welcomed all the guests, speakers, and faculty members present and resounded with optimism on the fruition of the event. Among the guests in attendance were UP Manila Chancellor Dr. Michael L. Tee, and UP Faculty Regent Hon. Carl Marc Ramota, who both delivered inspirational speeches to the attendees.

The one-day event’s presentation and discussion focused on the fundamental steps of reviewing academic curricula. The first speaker, Dr. Amelia Clasara-Fajardo of UP Diliman College of Education, thoroughly discussed the process of doing a curriculum review, offering expert insights and related experiences in the subject. Afterwards, a Question and Answer session was conducted to facilitate participation among the participants.

 

During the afternoon session, Dr. Charisse Reyes, Dean of the Faculty of Education of the UP Open University, discussed the alignments and outcomes in properly executing a curriculum review. On the other hand, the third speaker, Asst. Prof. Olivia Alma Sicam of UP Diliman College of Architecture, discussed the process of incorporating public service in the curriculum. Further insights were also shared by her colleagues, Franklin S. Fontanoza Jr. and Dr. Julius Rhoan T. Lustro, hailing from the same institution.

Every presentation during the afternoon session ended with an open discussion, wherein faculty members were given the opportunity to ask questions and share sentiments regarding the lectures. This juncture also offered an avenue for the participants to share the best practices from their respective institutions.


The conference concluded with the closing remarks of Dr. Maria Constancia Carrillo, the CAS Dean, who highlighted the main objectives of the gathering and expressed gratitude for the continuous support of the CAS community to make events like this possible.
