The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) through the Laboratory of Materials UP Manila (LABMAT) and GAEA Research Laboratory conducted the 2nd Materials Chemistry for High School Teachers Seminar-Workshop last January 15, 2025.
This time’s seminar-workshop focused on Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Energy Dispersive X-Ray Spectroscopy (EDX). It was a combination of a 30-minute lecture on the concepts of the devices used, and hands-on training on actual experimentation using SEM-EDX used by the Department of Physical Sciences and Mathematics (DPSM).
The three participants were from Paco Catholic School, University of Batangas, and the Philippine Normal University.
This program started in 2024 as one of the extension programs of CAS aimed at equipping high school teachers with knowledge in different Materials Chemistry characterization techniques that can help them and their respective students during conduct of research. This program is organized by Dr. Julius Andrew P. Nuñez of LABMAT, and Assistant Professor Migel Antonio Catalig of GAEA Research Lab.
