DSS student bags award at ASEAN-IPR Regional Conference

Ms. Aphia Katherine D. Fajardo, a third year BA in Development Studies student of the Department of Social Sciences (DSS), bagged the award for the Youth Essay Competition during the ASEAN Institute for Peace and Reconciliation (IPR) Regional Conference held on February 23-27, 2025, in Bangkok, Thailand. She presented her thought-provoking essay titled, “Beyond the Hashtags and Superficialities: A Call to Action for Gender-Inclusive Safe Spaces in the Cyberspace”.


Ms. Fajardo was one of the two Philippine delegates during the ASEAN-IPR Regional Conference on Cybersecurity and the Role of Information Technology in Fostering a Culture of Peace in ASEAN.


ASEAN-IPR is “ASEAN’s think tank/research institute” which aims to strengthen research activities on peace, conflict management, conflict resolution and reconciliation.


This remarkable achievement showcased the strong academic foundation provided by CAS through its Development Studies program, which have greatly influenced Ms. Fajardo’s perspectives and approach to global issues. This is also a testament on her hard work, intellect, and commitment to positive changes.


“CAS was one of the key inspirations for my paper as most of my opinions are based on the teachings and environment within the university,” she stated.
